About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter, Real Sociedad and Real Oviedo played out a dramatic 3-3 draw on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing resilience and attacking flair. Real Sociedad, playing at home, were expected to have the upper hand, but Real Oviedo proved to be formidable opponents. The game started with Real Oviedo taking the lead through Federico Viñas (GAP +1.1%), who scored twice in quick succession in the 50th and 52nd minutes. His clinical finishing put the visitors in a commanding position. However, Real Sociedad responded with a goal from Duje Ćaleta-Car (GAP +2.0%) in the 87th minute, sparking hopes of a comeback. Orri Óskarsson, who came on as a substitute, was instrumental in Real Sociedad's fightback, scoring twice in the dying moments of the match (64' and 90'). His impact off the bench was crucial, showcasing the depth in Real Sociedad's squad. However, Real Oviedo's Eric Bailly (GAP +0.6%) ensured the points were shared with a last-gasp equalizer in the 90th minute. Tactically, Real Sociedad made five changes, introducing Aritz Elustondo, Yangel Herrera, Orri Óskarsson, Álvaro Odriozola, and Arsen Zakharyan. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by the home team manager, aiming to inject fresh energy into the squad. Real Oviedo also made five substitutions, bringing in Thiago Fernández, Thiago Borbas Silva, Álex Forés Mendoza, Santi Cazorla, and Leander Dendoncker, which helped them maintain their intensity throughout the match. The result leaves Real Sociedad in a reflective mood, as they missed the opportunity to capitalize on their home advantage. For Real Oviedo, the draw is a testament to their fighting spirit and ability to compete against higher-ranked teams. Both teams will look to build on this performance as they continue their La Liga campaigns.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
